Background history

The production of white wines of special value in the DOCG Valdobbiadene Area is witnessed since the 13th century in the acts during the Serenissima’s domination. The reputation of the Prosecco’s ancestor has grown over the centuries and in the second half of the 19th century they began to grow it in purity.
The stories of two academics are very important: Count Balbi Valier, recruiter of the Balbi variety, and Semenzi about wine varieties that still compose the grapes of Prosecco.

Valdobbiadene’s territory

The DOCG Valdobbiadene Area is in the province of Treviso, a few kilometer from Venice, in the hill district captured in Giorgione and Cima da Conegliano‘s paintings, right in between the Dolomites and the Adriatic Sea. Its location guarantees a unique and almost magic combination, with clear positive effects on the quality of the grapes.

77vintido | The cultivation of Prosecco

The cultivation

The wine cultivation area is composed of hills, whose slopes have been shaped over the years by the industry of men. The landscape is wonderful, but the area is hard to cultivate with its wineries planted on steep slopes, where sometimes it’s hard to stand still. The operations in the winery are necessarily made manually in order to keep the entirety of the grapes’ peel, essential for the preservation and the following transfer of the flavor on the wines.
